Both sides of the clock show the seal of the town dating from the 13th Century.
The seal shows stylised versions of a sailing ship and a castle. Scarborough has had a castle on the cliffs above the town for about 2500 years. The current castle dates back to the 12th Century.
Scarborough also has a long history as a port, but these days only has a very small fishing fleet.
The clock marks the boundary of Westborough and Newborough in the town.
