This is widely known in Fayetteville as the "1897 Poe House," not as the Edgar Allan Poe House. Too much confusuon with the gothic author, I guess.
This house is part of the Museum of the Cape Fear complex. This late-Victorian residence was built by the Poe family of Fayetteville. E. A. and Josephine Poe reared eight children in the house. Mr. Poe owned and operated a local brickyard, and Mrs. Poe attended to home and family.
The home is built in the Stick/Eastlake style of Victorian architecture popular at the turn of the century. As this is written, tours are available at the Poe House Tuesday through Sunday until 4 pm.
