"Der Bahnhof bildet den Abschluss beziehungsweise Beginn der Bahnstrecke Rosenheim–Kufstein und der Unterinntalbahn.
Im Jahr 1858 wurde die Bahnstrecke Rosenheim–Kufstein–Innsbruck eröffnet, 1876 wurde der Bahnhof Kufstein erbaut, 1980 gänzlich durch einen für damalige Verhältnisse modernen Bau ersetzt. Der Bahnhof dient als Grenzbahnhof zwischen der ÖBB und der DB.
Die Bahnhofsanlagen wurden Anfang der 1980er Jahre komplett neu gebaut, der Fußgängersteg in den Stadtteil Zell wurde ein paar hundert Meter in den Süden verlegt.
Vor wenigen Jahren wurde auf der Westseite des Bahnhofs eine Park-and-Ride-Anlage angelegt sowie Lifte zu den Bahnsteigen gebaut. Die Bahnsteige in Kufstein zählen mit über 740 Metern zu den längsten Österreichs.
Zwar wurde der Bahnhof bis dato nie ein Knotenpunkt (obwohl mehrere Projekte weit gediehen sind), trotzdem kann man ihn indirekt als Knotenpunkt bezeichnen, da innerösterreichische Züge zwar die Strecke bis kurz vor den Bahnhof Rosenheim fahren, dann aber über die Rosenheimer Kurve nach Salzburg abbiegen, ohne einen Halt in Deutschland zu machen (sogenannte Korridorzüge).
Im Bahnhof Kufstein halten beinahe alle Züge, auch mehrere ICE-Verbindungen am Tag (nach Wien bzw. Bregenz sowie nach Innsbruck bzw. Berlin). Regionalzüge verkehren zwischen Rosenheim und Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof, bzw. weiteren Halten im Oberinntal, sowie zwischen Wörgl Hauptbahnhof und Kufstein, Kufstein und Rosenheim sowie Kufstein und München Hauptbahnhof. Die Linie S1 der S-Bahn Tirol verbindet Kufstein im 60-Minuten-Takt mit Landeck. EuroCity- bzw. InterCity-Züge fahren mindestens stündlich nach Innsbruck und dann abwechselnd weiter nach Bregenz, in die Schweiz oder nach Italien sowie mindestens alle zwei Stunden nach München bzw. Wien Westbahnhof. Weiters gibt es noch weitere Züge wie einen D-Zug nach Zell am See oder diverse Sonderzüge und CityNightLine-Verbindungen nach Belgien, Dänemark, Norddeutschland und in die Niederlande.
Vom Bahnhof aus fahren viele Regional- sowie Stadtbusse, Taxis sind an einem großen Taxistand vor dem Bahnhof erreichbar." - Quelle: Wikipedia
