2012 was a sad year for the fairgrounds. The oldest wooden grandstands in the state were lost to an arsonist's fire. On May 19th the grandstands burned to the ground. They had been checked only a half hour before to be sure everything was ok. They were built in 1879 and were quite the landmark.
As the year as progressed the fair board has scrambled to keep things happening as shceduled but it was a big task to undertake. On our visit the grounds were clean and things were running well but the metal bleachers and fresh asphalt told of the loss that was suffered. Hope are that the grandstands can be rebuilt.
The fairgound is in a mature setting and pretty. Attendance when we visted was light but we came at a odd time and the heat was at recordbreaking levels. It looked like given the right time and temperature lots of people could be found here.
