The Central Experimental Farm was one of five farms founded in 1886 by the government of Canada. It was designed to conduct research in agriculture in a rural setting, but near larger population and government centres.
Today the CEF is the last operating farm in existence, and is totally surrounded by the City of Ottawa.
This plaque was replaced by a new version in 2000. It stands not far from here.
