The wastewater treatment facility of Rheinfelden is located at the river Rhein in the north-west of the municipality. It is responsible for the wastewater of Rheinfelden and Magden with about 14,300 residents. It was built in 1974 and extended in 1998.
The thermic energy that evolves during the process is used to heat the nearby quarter Augarten with about 1,600 households.
