Team Blakelylaw was out collecting photographs, history, and waymarks one Sunday and had gone way past the time we had intended to stop without eating. Mrs. Team Blakelylaw knew that there was a truck stop/convenience store at the intersection of the two highways (US 81 & US 70), but we bypassed it because there is no indication from the outside that the building also contains a full restaurant.
Luckily for us and JW's, the only other place we could find open in town had its air conditioner out that day. So, we went to JW's thinking we could at least grab something out of the deli case. Boy, were we glad that we did. It turns out that it has a large, full restaurant. The kind where the pick-ups park next to the 18-wheelers, which park next to the motorcycles. The kind were the folks driving all of those vehicles sit down around one of the large round tables on a Sunday afternoon and solve all of the problems of the world, the nation, and their families. Just listening to the flow of conversation made us smile.
The food made us smile even more. We didn't order from the menu because, even late on a Sunday afternoon, they were serving Sunday dinner. That day it was ham with all the fixins', plus dessert.
You can bet we won't pass it by any more when we're in southwest Oklahoma.
