Tom Landry was born on November 11, 1924 in Mission, Texas and went on to become the Hall of Fame Coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Prior to his football career he served as a B-17 pilot in World War II. After his military service her resumed his football career at the University of Texas where he play on their bowl teams in 1948 and 1949. Following graduation from the University of Texas Landry joined the New York (football) Yankee in 1949 as a defensive back. The following year he moved to the New York (football) Giants where he played through the 1955 season. In 1956 Landry landed his first fulltime coaching jobs as the defensive coordinator for the Giants. It just so happened that the offensive coordinate for the Giants was another future Hall of Fame Coach Vince Lombardi.

In 1960 Landry became the first head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, a position that he held for the next 29 seasons. During his Cowboy career he won two Super Bowl (1972, 1978), five NFC Titles and 13 Division Titles. His overall coaching record stands at 270-178-6, which is among the pro football leaders. Coach Landry was forced out as Coach of the Cowboys following a change in ownership prior to the 1989 season. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990. Coach Landry died on February 12, 2000 from complication of leukemia and is buried in the Sparkman-Hillcrest Cemetery in Dalls, Texas.
