This retired White Pass & Yukon caboose #905 is found at Mile 5.8 along the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway, north of Skagway, Alaska, within Tongass National Forest. It is available for nightly rental from the US Forest Service.
Access is via the narrow-gauge White Pass and Yukon Railway during the summer season. In the off season, cabin users may hike to the site from Skagway along the railroad tracks. Cross-country skiing and snowmobiles are other options for access during the winter when the railroad is closed. Cost is $35 per night.
Excellent views of the east fork of the Skagway River and the Sawtooth Mountains. Mountain goats can frequently be seen with binoculars. A 4.5-mile trail to Denver Glacier starts at the cabin site. The nearby terrain is rugged and brushy, but the trail and the tracks offer plenty of hiking opportunities.
