The sculptor, Mike Chapman, on his website (visit link) has this to say about his work:

"Lettercutting is a great art, and over the years I've developed quite a respect for it. I've gradually become quite passionate about the subject and regard the more creative pieces as sculptures in their own right. This is a hand drawn monolith, carved in an enormous Welsh slate, weighing over a tonne. It marks the site where ashes are placed in the churchyard.

2006. St Johns, Hoxten, London. Height 2m."
