Phitsanulok City is one of the larger provincial capitals of northern Thailand, with a population of 80,000 or more. The city is bisected by the languorous Nan River. This serves to provide both a pleasant local environment in the cool of the evening, and also a means of transportation.

A small landing in the city centre is the main ferry embarkation point. This is directly outside the main entrance to the main wat of the city, Wat Yai ("Big Wat", as it is known informally). The landing consists of a small jetty, and boats parked up and down the River shore. On the tree lined shore are folk selling food, drink, and nick nacks, and passing the time of day. Pleasant spot.

I am not entirely sure if this is an "official" landing point. Ticketing is carried out on the boat of your choice. The aquatic vehicles I saw were all small "dragon boats", capable of carrying up to 15 or so people. No timetables or any such sophisticated paraphernalia. I am not sure about the seasonality of the ferry service, I suspect that on the odd occasions when the River floods, ferry captains stay home.
