The grant amount received was $15,000 on December 8, 1905. It was opened to the public 5 years later in 1910 and was operational for 64 years until it closed 1974.

Designed by architect Charles Martin Borter and built by builder Alonzo Robertson the Carnegie Library is a two-storey red brick building that exemplifies a Beaux-Arts architectural style with its symmetrical five-bay facade and polychromatic exterior.

The building was recognized for its heritage value in 1999. Those attending the opening ceremonies were asked for contributions of books to add to the library's collection. The request that was granted by nearly everyone in attendance and netted nearly 8000 contributions.

It's currently occupied by a Community Resource Centre.
