Phitsanulok city is one of the many northern Thai provincial capitals. A pleasant place, maybe 90,000 good people, in the Buddhist Bible Belt, a region of agriculture and light industry, and with a long history. To the east of the city is this new Buddhist Park. When complete it will be a major addition to the recreational activities of the city and province. A major feature of the Park is this large statue of the Buddha, blessing and protecting the city. This is found to the rear of the Park, but is visible from a wide area.

At the base of the statue is a dedication to King Naresuan, a Thai King of five centuries ago, who liberated northern Thailand from the oppressive rule of Burma, and then placed the region under his administration. Part of the inscription is the year of dedication: 2550 in the Buddhist Era, which translates to 2007 of the Common Era—not so long ago. The last four characters are the four digits in the curvaceous Thai script.
Year of construction: 2550
