Since the most interesting places does not exactly lie on the ring road, I think Laufskálar is an exciting place to pull forward (though not so well known), because it literally almost lies on the road.
From an outsider standpoint cairns may seem insignificant compared to the more impressive natural phenomena, but since they are an integral part of Icelandic history, I think they deserve to be highlighted.
You should not have travelled many days in Iceland before you become aware that cairns have a special meaning - they are everywhere and in all sizes.
Here you have an opportunity to be a (small) part of Icelandic folklore.
NOTE This is one of the "non-localized" sites mentioned in the Visit Instructions. You dont need to visit this exact spot to log this waymark - any point along the Ring Road as well as any site mentioned in the book will suffice.
If you chose another location than the one listed I encourage you to add the coords for the spot of your choice. And photographs will be very much appreciated too.
