About Us

Donnelly's Pub was established in 2008, but has a history dating back as far as 1880!

They say it pays to be in the right place at the right time. That was certainly the case for Patrick Donnelly. Patrick was the son of James Donnelly, the patriarch of the notorious Canadian Family, The Black Donnellys. On the night of February 4, 1880, Patrick's parents, two brothers and cousin were murdered at the hands of the mob at his homestead in Biddulph Township, near London, Ontario. On that evening, Patrick was right here in Thorold, Ontario living with his wife and raising his children at the City Hotel that he owned, which stood on this fine piece of land.

In town, Patrick was known as a quiet and industrious young man. Patrick was not known (as his other family members were) for his criminal activity. However, he did have one brush with the law as he failed to repair the veranda at the City Hotel. A customer fell through a rotten plank and impaled himself on a rust pipe, causing a severe abdominal infection. Patrick was fined $500. Don't worry, we have since fixed that rusty pipe!

Fast forward to 2010, and you will find that Donnelly's Pub has new management, a new menu, and an attitude that is nowhere near as dark as its past! Here at Donnelly's we are all about big, hearty and affordable food. Every meal is made fresh to order, and is prepared with the freshest ingredients. From our fresh cut fries, to our spices from the garden, you will not be disappointed with the quality of our food! To go along with large portions of delicious Irish Fare, Donnelly's Pub offers 10 different brands of ice cold draft beer. Come and enjoy one with us and your friends!
