Mrs. Meyer was appointed by President McKinley as Director of Indian Education for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1898, was the first woman to hold that post.

From 1898 to 1910 she served as Superintendent of Indian Boarding Schools, during which time she prepared a text book for Indian schools. The collection includes biographical material, curriculum and lesson plans related to Indian schools, information on Indian education and Indian affairs, newspaper clippings and photographs related to Indian schools and Indian education.

After 12 years in the position, she retired to marry Cort Meyer, a Toppenish rancher whom she had met at Fort Simcoe.

The mural was painted by Joe Chen of Portland, Oregon, and is on the Professional Images building on West First Street.
