This cenotaph, placed by grateful citizens to the men who gave their lives in the service of their country as an everlasting memorial in Nanton, Alberta.

"Constructed in 1926 in memory of the men of Nanton and District who gave their lives in the 1st and 2nd Great Wars.
A plaque to honour Korean War Veterans was added in 1995. This Cenotaph is maintained by the Nanton Branch #80 Royal Canadian Legion. A wreath-laying ceremony is held every November 11th at 11am."

This cenotaph sits among several memorials, aircraft, a wall or remembrance and a museum dedicated to the service men and women who served in the Second World War in southern Alberta. The Nanton Air Museum has its roots in the preservation of Avro 683 Lancaster FM159.
Nanton was the heart of the air training that took place for the British Commonwealth Air Training program during the war. Nearby service flying schools to train fighter and multi-engine pilots included Vulcan, Claresholm, Fort Macleod, Medicine Hat and Calgary.
The museum houses numerous artifacts and a full day can be spent looking at the displays. Outside the building is flanked by two aircraft on pedestals. The are additional monuments including a wall that lists the service men and women of Bomber Command that lost their lives in the war.
There is a playground and gazebo for the kids to play and parents to rest and enjoy a picnic. The town has numerous restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance if a eating break is required from the mueum.
