A footpath leads from the memorial to the edge of the woods where the remains of RAF West Kirby lies underneath the covering of mother nature. The majority of the camp was constructed of wood and was last in use in 1957.
The memorial displays a propellor and a plaque on a slate stone. The inscription reads:
'RAF
WEST KIRBY
To commemorate all those
who served, trained and worked
at RAF West Kirby
between 1940 - 1957'
Another small plaque reads:
Membership
Enrolment
News Updates
Reunion dates'
Around the memorial is a small gravel area where poppy crosses and wreaths are laid, surrounded by chain-link fencing.
Male Dragontree completed his square bashing here during his National Service. It was the first time he had returned to the site since 1956. His story can be read here: visit link
