This armoury is named for William Merrifield VC, MM (9 October 1890 – 8 August 1943) a Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
The building itself was built in 1893 and is designated under the Ontario Heritage Act and the Brantford heritage inventory list for it's front tower and gable - rear gambrel, architectural style.
Currently home of the 56th Field Regiment- Royal Canadian Artillery.
