This F5, the Canadian-built version of the Northrop F5, was put on display in recognition of the RCAF contribution to the Canadian Forces Joint Operations Command, a unit that can readily deploy elements of the RCAF, RCN and the Canadian Army in response to any situation both in Canada and globally.
The Single seat F5 on display is in the tactical colours of 419 "Moose" Squadron. This unit is currently the primary fighter training squadron for all RCAF CF18 pilots.
116715 was originally ordered as RCAF 14715, re-marked before completion. It was used at Edwards AFB for company trials then delivered to CFB Cold Lake, AB after these trials. With 448 Squadron (Later AETE) at Cold Lake. With 419 Squadron from 1979 to 1994. Became instructional airframe A855 on 7 March 1986, but apparently returned to flight status by 1994. Originally scheduled for Avionics Upgrade Program, but did not receive modifications. Replaced by 116764 in this program. In storage at Aircraft Maintenance Development Unit (AMDU) at CFB Trenton by February 1995. Preserved, displayed at CFB Kingston by October 2000.
