Originally this 1,614 foot long bridge was built in 1899 for the Choctaw and Memphis Railroad which was acquired by the Rock Island a few years later, and it became known as the Rock Island Bridge. In 1972 the lift span was added, converting it to a vertical lift bridge. Due to the 1980 bankruptcy of the Rock Island and change in ownership of the bridge, it fell into disuse. In 2001 The Clinton Foundation agreed to renovate the bridge as a pedestrian and cyclist bridge. The work was completed in 2011 when it was renamed the Clinton Presidential Park Bridge.
