The Rice Public Library was built in 1888. It was designed by architect S.S. Woodcock of Boston. The building was built using $30,0000 bequeathed by Arabella Rice of Portsmouth, New Hampshire in memory of her father, Robert Rice, a seaman and native of Kittery. The distinctive brick Queen Anne building is the most prominent building in Kittery. The building continues to serve as the public library.
