The Farmers State Bank of Manawa, founded by a group of local businessmen and farmers, received its charter on March 17, 1916. Ten months later the new bank building was completed, the institution was opened to the public on January 11, 1917. The bank operated at this location for more than forty years until expanding business created the need for bigger and more convenient quarters.
Kucksdorf Construction Company, Inc., of Leopolis, WI became the General Contractor and construction work began in August of 1961 on the site where the J. C. Piddle home had stood. Special features provide drive-up teller service, off-street parking accommodations and after-hours depository. An Open House on Saturday, August 4, 1961 officially opened the new bank building and the closing of the old bank building.
In 1966 the building was reopened as the Strum Public Library and remained open until 1994 when a new expanded facility was opened at 130 North Bridge Street; Manawa, WI 54949. The present occupant of the old bank building is Suehs Motors (Suehs Sales and Service) (
