A friend of Tristan, Alice, comes from Ediburgh to stay at Darrowby. Alice is in fact his landlady’s daughter, but Siegfried jumps to a different conclusion. Tristan is quite fond of Alice and talks about giving up being a vet and running a pub in Scotland. Eventually Siegfried prevails and Alice goes back to Scotland without Tristan. Alice leaves on the bus from Redmire Green.
