Based on the true story of the Rylstone WI.

Chris Harper and Annie Clarke are members of their local, Knapely, WI. They are disheartened by the way their local president runs the branch and crave more excitement and fun from their meetings.

Annie’s husband John dies from Leukemia and Chris would like the WI to raise funds for a new sofa for the family room at the local hospital, as a memorial to John. Given that the WI’s last calendar only raised £75.60, raising the £999 for the sofa is going to be a challenge. Chris suggests a tasteful nude calendar of the WIs members.

She manages to co-opt enough members for the project and starts to work out how to do the photography. Early attempts at self photography raises sniggers at the local chemists, so the ladies decide to hire a photographer. After several interviews with photographers they eventually find one that can work with them.

The calendar is produced, but requires WI approval at national level. After an impassioned appeal at a WI rally in London approval is given to the project. A press conference is called and production starts. Unfortunately the reaction that the calendar gets in the press is much larger than expected. Family life becomes strained as children and spouses come under pressure from the media and friends. An appearance in Hollywood beckons, which puts further strain on some marriages. In the end, however the calendar sells beyond all expectations and there are family reconciliations.
