The memorial has a statue of a uniformed World War I soldier standing erect with his left hand on his hip and his right holding his hat.  Behind the soldier stands a classical female figure wearing a robe, she is holding an American flag in her left hand.  The sculpture was created by renowned sculptor Daniel Chester French. The statues stand on a granite base inscribed:
