The site:
At the end of Lane Xang street, on the River, in central Vientiane, is the Beaux Arts styled Presidential Palace. The palace was originally built to house the French colonial governors. It also served as a royal residence during the brief reign of the monarchy following independence. It is now used mainly for formal ceremonies. The Palace is not open to the public.
The 50,000 Kip note is one of the higher Lao denominations. The reverse of which uses the Presidential Palace as its sole image.
The banknote:
The image of the palace used is not entirely realistic. The front wall of the Palace obscures the Palace when it is photographed from this position. The image used here is taken at the front gate (as far into the grounds a tourist is allowed). The flag pole is clearly taller in real life than in the bank note image. Also the Palace now has a covered entrance area. Possibly this was a later addition.
