The solar system model is housed in a protective cabinet and stands in the centre of the display area. It includes a sign describing the model:

Orrery by Phillip Son and Nephew, Liverpool, about 1870
'This educational model of the Solar System shows the planets out as far as Neptune. Turning the handle causes the planets to move round the Sun at their correct relative speeds.

It was originally part of the teaching collection of the Liverpool Institute for Girls. The arms with the outer planets have been reconstructed.'

The exhibit is located on the top floor of the World Museum. It is next to the equally good Planetarium.
