There are 2 dog statues in the park, this waymark is for the one at the corner of S Kentucky and E Powell Ave. The dog is aying down on a concrete block pad around 4 feet in the air. The dog itself is about 2 feet tall laying down and 4 to 5 feet in length.
The story of the dogs are somewhat a mystery, but a story is told that the dogs once lined the sidewalk at the home of Samuel and Martha Orr Bayard's home, which was one of the homes that surround the now park. The park was created and named for the Bayard family stipulated by Mrs. Bayard as a memorial to her late husband. She donated the 10 acres of land to the city for the park as long as they were responible to upkeep it in 1901. 111 years later, the city has still kept her wishes.
