The Point of Graves cemetery dates to 1671 when Captain John Pickering 2nd, granted the town of Portsmouth about 1/2 acre to enclose as a burial ground. The oldest legible stones date to the 1680s. The cemetery with about 150 marked graves is the final resting place for many of the early prominent citizens of Portsmouth. The cemetery has many interesting carved stones.
