Even Alice would wonder why this stack of coffee cups and a coffee pot was titled "Space Station, 2000" but here they.

In an alcove of the Boaca Raton Art Museum, just southwest of the Count de Hoernle Amphitheater and the statues of Count Adolph and Countess Henrietta de Hoernle, is another piece of public art that is placed out of the main view of the passers-by who walk around Mitzner Park. The art featured in this waymark is a column of oversized, painted, bronze coffee cups stacked 13 high, with a few painted bronze saucers between some of the cups. At the top of the 15-foot high column of white cups and saucers is an oversized old fashioned black coffee pot. This sculpture gives a realistic rendering of cups, saucers and coffee pot as overly large but accurate in scale and proportion. It is displayed in a courtyard of sorts that offer entrance into some businesses officed in the art museum area. Facing the amphitheater, the sculptures would be to the viewers left.
Not sure why Julio Larraz, the sculptor, named this cups-and-pot sculpture "Space Station, 2000." However, I have learned that sculptors, like jazz musicians, name their work things that often make no sense to the beholder. This is such a case. The art work is definitely of cups and saucers and coffee pots whether or not the artist was on a space-out trip at the time of his creative muse or not.
