Bales Cemetery is one of the larger Great Smoky Mountains National Park cemeteries we have found. It has approximately 100 graves, many of them children's graves judging by the distance betweet the headstonesand footstones. Most of the headstones are simple sandstone slabs with no inscriptions. The cemetery was undergoing restoration at the time we visited it and we were unable toenter the cemetery. Land for the cemetery was donated by Caleb Bales.
