The co-ordinates given are for a point
about 40 metres to the east of the bridge on a footpath. Footpaths run along
each side of the road and under the bridge so photographs can be taken easily
and safely. The actual bridge location is at 51° 31.045'N, 000°
01.937'W.
To keep road and railway traffic moving railways are either run
underground or elevated as in this case. Those that run at ground level have the
inconvenience of level crossings that affects the road traffic. This section of
railway, that runs from Stratford and Bromley-by-Bow stations to the north east
to Limehouse station to the south west of the bridge, is elevated and is
supported by a series of arches (see photos). The arches that do not have roads
passing under them are generally blocked off at both ends and are rented out to
small businesses.
Bridge Type: Arch
