The East End of London is synonymous with the docks and there are many reminders, in these parts, of the relationship of the East End and the sea. This anchor is set in the middle of a small traffic island outside a building that was known, when I was a lot younger, as 'the stack of bricks'. Apprentices in the Merchant Navy used to live here whist attending college in pursuit of their professional qualifications. Over the entrance can be seen a couple of anchors carved in stone and a central carving that reads 'Sailor's Society - In Service for the Sailor'. This is tuly an acceptable place for the anchor.
