The only building remaining on the property is the cabin. The cabin has one room with a loft in the attic. A covered front porch runs the length of the cabin. The cabin sits in an opening in the woods off the Cades Cove Loop Road.
History if no Link:
Nathan Sparks owned the property where Will Sparks built the cabin in 1880 and lived in it a few years. The cabin was home for several families after that. William Oliver was the next owner. In 1896 he sold the property to Samantha Anthony who sold it in 1900. In 1910 the porperty was sold to George W. (Carter) Shields at which time it became known as the Carter Shields Cabin. Shields had was fought for the Union in the Civil War. He was crippled by a wound suffered at the Battle of Shiloh. Shields sold the cabin to Bud Gregory who in turn slod it to Wade Tipton in 1922. Tipton sold it to the State of Tennessee.
