There are a series of nine of these benches and seats in the Cardiff Bay area, located in the Roath Basin, Britannia Quay also the Waterfront park, they have come to known as Beastie Benches.
This seat is a very detailed brick carving of what appears to be a posie of shellfish, the seat is located on the end of the Roath dock, has a great view of the the lightship 'Helwick' two other beastie benches and the 'Pit to Port' sculpture.
Each bench is engraved with an inscription taken from the Dylan Thomas poem called ‘Ballad of the long legged bait’ on the rear of this bench, the inscription reads, "In the Shell" Perhaps a great place to sit and read Dylan's poem.
