This memorial is dedicated to Major Gordon Southam. He was killed in the Battle of Somme on October 15, 1916. He served in the Canadian Field Artillery's 8th Brigade. Southam was buried in the Albert Communal Cemetery Extension in France.

The monument appears to have been a fountain but it hasn't been working for a while. The park itself is named Southam but I am unsure of whether it is named after Gordon Southam or his father, William Southam who bought the Hamilton Spectator in 1877 (the surrounding neighbourhood is named after William).
