This small, private museum is located a little outside the Thai city and provincial capital of Sukhothai, in central Thailand, and takes as its focus of interest the former Thai Kingdom of Sukhothai. This Kingdom was the first major, independent Thai Kingdom and flourished between the 13th and 15th centuries AD. As the modern province and the former Kingdom geographically coincide, this interest is not surprising.

Of particular interest to the museum is ceramics from this era. This interest is not surprising, adjoining the Museum is a hotel, the Hotel, which sells, in addition to accommodation, reproductions of Sukhothai era ceramics. The ceramics on display are excellent examples of the craft, and come though the majority of pieces come from the Sukhothai Kingdom, there are also items from Burma, China, and Vietnam.
There are two floors to the Museum, the lower more utilitarian wares, the upper royal and Buddhist items.

The name of the Museum derives from the ancient city of Sangkhalok, part of the Sukhothai Kingdom, which in turn produced the "Sangkhalok" style of pottery. Typified by scalloped rims and bluish-green patterns, and the expressive figurines.

Entry is the standard 100 baht ($3). I said yes to gift shop, but this is nothing more than a stand of postcards. Yes to restaurant, part of the hotel.
