The Niagara Parks Commission opened the doors of its Butterfly Conservatory in late 1996. Located on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, 10 minutes north of the Falls, there are over 2,000 butterflies made up of 45 different species that call the Butterfly Conservatory home. This 1,022 square meter (11,000 square feet) structure, North America's largest glass-enclosed Butterfly Conservatory, protects a lush, tropical environment with free-flying butterflies, a beautiful waterfall, and pathways that wind 180 meters (600 feet) throughout.
