An interesting feature of this Wat is that it was once two wats, now combined into one—Wat Prakaewdontoa and Wat Suchadaram, in the year AD 1984. The reason for this transformation is not given, however, the two wats are immediately adjacent.
The Wat is located in the centre of the city of Lampang, capital of the province of the same name. It is the premier Wat in the province, having housed at one time the Emerald Buddha, the sacred image of the Buddha, now located in Bangkok. The grounds of the Wat contain a full panoply of Buddhist features. There are statues of historical figures, accommodation for the monks, halls, Buddhist images, a small museum on the grounds, and a school.
Entry is unrestricted, but a 20 baht fee is charged for foreigners.
