This is the northern most of three rail bridges near Hincaster. Originally part of the Lancaster Carlisle rail prospectus of 1844. Several routes had been surveyed to get the railway north to Scotland. Joseph Locke's inland route over Shap Summit was the final choice. The railway was built as single line but soon a second track was laid.

The bridge is made of faced stone with a brick lining to the arch.

This old bridge was not designed for modern tall farm vehicles which struggle to get under.
Bridge Type: Arch

Bridge Usage: Railroad

Moving Bridge: This bridge is static (has no moving pieces)
