Before I had black raspberry plants of my own, I found this high density foraging location. I could harvest several quarts of very large, lush black raspberries without moving. This is on public lands: owned by the NY Canal Authority.

For several years this was my go-to place. I don't know what kind of a harvest I'll get this year (2012), as they seem to have mowed some of the berry canes. But the canes that remain are loaded. They are about a week away from ripe still (as of June 18), so they make excellent pictures: bright red against a background of green. Can you beat me to them when the time comes? I think there's still plenty to share. Although many people use the towpath to bike, jog and walk, nobody seems to be there to forage!
The easiest route is to go to Henpeck Park. Access is off Lyell Ave (Route 31) just east of Elmgrove (Route 386). From the parking lot, (coordinates: N 43° 11.313 W 077° 43.874) walk west, under the Elmgrove Rd bridge. When you have passed the bridge, look ahead for a sign that indicates that the path is property of the NY State Canal Authority (no motercycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, etc.). Just beyond that, mixed in among the wild grape and other invasive plants, you'll find the black raspberries!
