The Hall of Honor is located in the lobby area of Auburn Arena on the campus of Auburn University. We entered through the Auburn Team Shop on the side of the building, which is where we took the coordinates. As one goes up the ramp, the loud speakers begin the Auburn Fight Song and cheering as one would expect to hear in Tiger Walk on football game days. At the top of the ramp one finds several display cases. In a special case is the 2010 AFCA Coaches Trophy, signifying the Auburn Tigers were the national champions in college football (NCAA Division I) for the 2010 season. The trophy itself is on an ebony base which is on a metal pedestal. Both parts are enclosed in a circular glass case so visitors can walk all around it. The pedestal is engraved with the names of the coaches and players on the 2010 National Championship team. The games and scores are on the top of the glass enclosure. The team won other awards, but this is the one on display.
"The AFCA National Championship Trophy (Coaches' Trophy) is the trophy awarded by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to the winner of college football's BCS National Championship Game, which determines the national champion for purposes of the Coaches Poll. The trophy has been awarded since 1986 and has been contractually tied to the winner of the BCS National Championship Game since 1998.
The trophy consists of a Waterford Crystal football affixed to an ebony base, and carries a value of over $30,000. The winning school retains permanent possession of the trophy, as a new one is awarded every year. The football portion of the trophy weighs approximately 8 pounds and together with the stand, it weights about 45 pounds and stands 34 inches tall. It is handmade by master craftspeople at Waterford Crystal and reportedly takes nearly 3 months to complete." source: (
