This obelisk is gray granite with a rough surface. It honors Dr. Carl Aaron Swensson, founder of nearby Bethany College. Dr. Swensson was a Lutheran minister, president of the General Council of the Lutheran Church of North America, a member of the Kansas Legislature and a popular orator, writer and author of the time. This obelisk is a fitting monument to a man who continues to have an impact through the college he founded, many years after his passing.
