Found 600 or so kilometres north of the sprawling metropolis of Bangkok, is the far smaller, quieter, and some would say, better city of Nan, capital of the province of the same name, and replete with its own local history. Just a little to the north of the city centre is this dated, stone bridge.

The year given is 2473 in the Buddhist Era, this translates to 1930 in the Common Era.

The bridge is in good repair and still in use, but it clearly shows its years. It is adjacent to the city park and the government precinct. Fortunately, there is a (difficult to read) information plaque, in both Thai and English, on the bridge.

From the plaque: the bridge was constructed in 1930 at the order of the last feudal ruler (King) of Nan, Chao Maha Bhrama Surathada. Local bricks and timber were used in the construction. When constructed the bridge crossed the original course of the Nan River, but the River has been moved further to the east. This site was the location of the city gate. The original name of the bridge was, "Pratu Chai". The "Krungsri" name is from a later, local administrator (unstated on the plaque, but most likely this latter gentleman oversaw a major renovation of the bridge).

The name on the bridge at the present time (waymark image), so I am told, is "Krungsri", not the original. Interestingly, and a somewhat rare occurrence, the year is given in Hindu numerals, not in the more usual, curvaceous Thai script, as is usually used in public structures. There is no nearby parking area as such, but parking is available on the streets around the bridge.
