As you enter the New York Public Library you will find LEGO® copies of the famous pair of marble lions that guard the entrance to the New York Public Library, Patience and Fortitude. The marble lions were given their names by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia during the Great Depression. The qualities that New Yorkers displayed during the Great Depression. The LEGO® copies were commissioned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the libraries main building the Stephen A. Schwartzman Building.

Nathan created these lions, Patience
and Fortitude, in his New York art
studio using more than 60,000 stan-
dard gray LEGO® bricks. It took more
than three weeks to plan, design and
construct these iconic replica, not to
mention a lot of patience and fortitude
on Nathan's part.
The sculptures were commissioned
by the New York Public Library in
honor of the 100th birthday of the
Stephen A. Schwartzman Building.
