A M4 Sherman; named Mort-Homme, stopped at the entrance of the city in 1944. It was from the second blinded division of the General Leclerc in Badonviller, Lorraine, France.
During the WW II, 1944, it marked the liberation of Badonviller of the German by the French General Leclerc!
Le 1er mars 1941 suite à la prise de koufra le maréchal Leclerc jure alors « de ne déposer les armes que lorsque nos couleurs, nos belles couleurs, flotteront sur la cathédrale de Strasbourg ». Fin 1943 le général De Gaulle donne mission à Leclerc de libérer la capitale ce qui sera fait après de rudes combats en août 1944. La 2e division blindée se dirige ensuite vers Strasbourg et libère Badonviller le 17 novembre 1944 sous les ordres du lieutenant-colonel de La Horie13 appuyé par une section de chars légers du lieutenant Davreux, une section de Shermans et quelques Halftraks un chars sherman, le Mort-Homme est stoppé lors des combats à la sortie de la ville en direction de Cirey-sur-Vezouze.
