Le 1er mars 1941 suite à la prise de koufra le maréchal Leclerc jure alors « de ne déposer les armes que lorsque nos couleurs, nos belles couleurs, flotteront sur la cathédrale de Strasbourg ». Fin 1943 le général De Gaulle donne mission à Leclerc de libérer la capitale ce qui sera fait après de rudes combats en août 1944. La 2e division blindée se dirige ensuite vers Strasbourg et libère Badonviller le 17 novembre 1944 sous les ordres du lieutenant-colonel de La Horie13 appuyé par une section de chars légers du lieutenant Davreux, une section de Shermans et quelques Halftraks un chars sherman, le Mort-Homme est stoppé lors des combats à la sortie de la ville en direction de Cirey-sur-Vezouze.

1 March 1941 following the capture of Kufra Marshal Leclerc then swear "not to lay down arms until our colors, our beautiful colors, float on the Strasbourg Cathedral." In late 1943 General de Gaulle gave Leclerc mission to liberate the capital which will be done after heavy fighting in August 1944. The 2nd Armored Division then goes to Strasbourg and releases Badonviller November 17, 1944 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel of The Horie13 supported by a platoon of light tanks of Lieutenant Davreux, a section of Sherman tanks and a few Halftraks Sherman on Death -Man is stopped the fighting in the outskirts of town towards Cirey-on-Vezouze.
