This boundary stone, engraved
with an anchor and #8 is alongside the Command House pub. The building was once
the residence of the Senior Storekeeper of Gun Wharf, a hugely important area in the
early 19th century close to the naval dockyard. The area of Gun Wharf was used
to store ordnance and overhaul cannon from ships of the Royal Navy. It became
just another Government office building in the 1950's and eventually sold off in
the late 1970's to a pub chain.
