The aquatic vegetation and the nearby forested tree stands play an important role in kepig this aquatic environment vibrant and healthy for the birds and other wildlife that use this slough. The Slack Slough has had 94 different bird species recorded at or in its vicinity. Without the vegetation and protected area around the slough this area would not have the same importance to the wildlife that use this wetland.
